Maver Larford Lakes hosted the prestigious Pairs final with 46 pairs battling it out for the £5000 purse and title.
All 3 lakes were used with 47 pegs on the Match and Arena and 47 on the Speci lake.
Conditions were not brilliant with a strong SW wind lashing the Speci so the pellet waggler was always going to be difficult. All that being said, weights were superb with considerably more than 100lbs needed to win most sections.
Fished on a points basis with section count back in the event of a points tie with weight being the deciding factor.
1st Pair on the day and lifting the trophy, tackle prizes from Maver and the £5000 purse was Darren Davies and Garry Pook with a perfect 2 point score and a total weight of 105.280kgs (234lbs). Darren drew Match lake shallow bank peg 15 and attacked the peg with small method feeder from the off weighing 58.940kgs of F1, common and mirror carp to 5lbs. His partner Garry Pook drew peg 17 on the Speci burr bank to land some big lumps from the pole plus a few pellet waggler carp for a total weight of 46.340kgs and a comfortable section win by more than 10kgs.
2nd placed pair were Tom Scholey and Matt Godfrey with a 4 point score and decided on section count back. Tom drew peg 37 on the Arena and won the lake comfortably with a remarkable 92-240kgs (205lbs). Tom caught all of his carp under his feet landing fish to 12lbs. His tactics not only secured a perfect section score, it was enough for a comfortable lake win as well. His partner Matt Godfrey drew peg 59 on the chalet bank of the Speci who landed 44-150kgs of carp and bream securing 3 points and a 2nd in the section prizes.
3rd pair Paul Holland and Paul (Tommy) Hillier finished on 4pts again decided by section count back. Paul Holland drew peg 31 on the Arena landing 80.100kgs (178lbs) whilst his partner Tommy Hilliar drew peg 10 on the burr bank of the Speci landing 54.780kgs (122lbs) of carp and bream for a section 1st and 2nd overall on the lake.
4th Pair Harry Billing and Stewart Lister also tied on the 4pts with section count back and weight deciding the position. Harry drew peg 28 on the shallow bank of the Match lake weighing 48.740kgs (108.5lbs) whilst his partner Stewart drew peg 72 on the chalet bank of the Speci landing 55.500kds (123.5lbs) of carp and bream winning his section and overall lake win.
All in all, it was a great match with a total of 3,448.450kgs weighed (7,673lbs) averaging 83.5lbs per man.
In all 37 of the 92 anglers weighed over 100lbs and a further 9 anglers weighing in excess of 90lbs.
