If Saturday's Maver pairs final was a great day for Phil Ringer and Steve Cooke, the Maver Pole Pairs on Sunday at Larford Lakes was to make their weekend get a whole lot better!
With close on £5,500 in the bank from the day before, the champs added another £1,000 for the victory that completed an unprecedented double –header as a perfect two point score and an aggregate weight of 135.160kg saw them head a trio of pairs on two section wins.
Second spot went to last year's Maver Champs Des Shipp and Steve Mayo with an 85.500 aggregate, Phil's brother Steve and dad Geoff taking third place with their 76.480kg total. To complete Phil and Steve's utter domination, they took top weight on their respective lakes to leave the opposition floundering.
"It's been a cracking weekend," reflected Phil. "Even though this match was pole only and the wind was blowing strongly the lakes have fished their heads off, better even than Saturday! To win the Pairs is great but to follow it up with this one is just incredible."
Phil's 52.040 section winning weight came from Specimen Lake peg 52, while Steve took his maximum at Match Lake peg 37, and both men fished exactly as they had done the previous day in a virtual carbon copy, right down to using the rigs from the day before.
